The position is somewhat flexible and can be adjusted to the talents, interests, and goals of the intern. Possible responsibilities could include the following:

Accompaniment--help our guests identify and achieve housing, employment, legal, employment, and health goals by researching resources, accompanying them to appointments, helping them fill out forms, etc.

Food Programs--help run our weekly grocery distribution and twice-weekly hot meals program

Outreach--help create our newsletter and manage our website and social media; participate in advocacy and education; hep with fundraising or volunteer coordination

ESL--teach or assist with English as a second language classes

Other--assist with bookkeeping, data-entry, finances, or maintenance of the house, yard, and garden

Opportunity to serve some of the most vulnerable in our East Oakland neighborhood and be immersed in a diverse and caring community of staff, volunteers, guests, and neighbors.

Grow in understanding of issues that affect immigrants and participate in efforts to create change.

Full-time interns receive a $225 monthly stipend or free room and board plus a $150 monthly stipend. Half-time interns receive a $150 monthly stipend or free room and board plus a $75 monthly stipend.


Applicants must be compassionate, responsible, patient, organized, detail-oriented, flexible, and able to work in a cross-cultural setting.  

Spanish proficiency strongly preferred.

Willing to commit to join us for at least a month between June 1st and August 1st.

Experience with or knowledge of case management, the immigrant community, social services, the immigration legal system, advocacy, living in intentional community, and/or the Catholic Worker movement helpful.
